Field Day Information

Here is your FIELD DAY CHECKLIST:

  • Apply sunscreen at home before leaving for school.
  • Apply bug repellent if you are sensitive to critter bites. You will be spending some time in the grassy areas.
  • Wear a hat (baseball caps permitted on Field Day) and sunglasses if you wish.
  • Wear comfortable athletic shoes.
  • Wear cool, comfortable clothing and colors.
  • Remember your sack lunch unless you have pre-ordered a sack lunch from the cafeteria.
  • Remember to wear your Field Day T-Shirt!!!
  • Most of all HAVE FUN!!!

Water and a snack will be provided by the PTA; but, if you wish to carry your own water bottle with you, you may. Be sure to put your name on it and take it from station to station.

FOR ALL OF THE AWESOME VOLUNTEERS, all of the above applies to you too. Also, if the back parking lot fills up, please use the overflow parking at the church next door. If you are volunteering for the entire day you will be served lunch by the PTA.

If it RAINS on Friday - Field Day will be postponed to Monday, May 19th; everything else will remain the same.

LAST CALL FOR VOLUNTEERS! Field Day is Friday, May 16th and we still need a few volunteers!

This is a great day for moms and dads to spend the day with the kids at Barksdale. If you are interested in helping out, the shifts are listed below. Please contact Kelly Boyd, Field Day Chairman, by email or by calling 972-473-2379.

  • Kindergarten Volunteers:

    • 7:15-11:15 (includes set up, games, and clean up)
  • 1st-5th Grade Volunteers:

    • All day 8-2:30 (includes set up, games, lunch provided, and clean up)
    • AM only 8-11 (includes set up, games, lunch on their own)
    • PM only 11:45-2:30 (games, clean up)

Brown Bag Lunch with Renner Principal McLaughlin

Please join us in the Colorado Room at the Sockwell Center, on Thursday, May 8, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for a brown bag lunch with Renner principal Bill McLaughlin.

Mr. McLaughlin will talk about what to expect at Renner and how to help transition your 5th grader. He will answer parent questions and give valuable insight into middle school life.

The Sockwell Center is located at 6301 Chapel Hill Blvd. and is the building directly behind Barksdale Elementary. If you have any questions about this program, please contact Karen Dibble, First Vice-President - Programs by email or by calling (972) 403-1813.

It's Bronco Press Time for K - 4th Graders!

It’s Bronco Press time for all K to 4th graders. This is your opportunity to write a story and have it published through the Bronco Press! The time frames for your submission are:

  • 3rd and 4th grade students: March 17 – April 11
  • KN, 1st and 2nd grade students: April 14 – May 9
