This Week at Barksdale: October 22 - 26

This week is Red Ribbon Week. Each day will have a special theme to get the children involved in this campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Monday, October 22:

  • Red Ribbon Week begins with “Don’t Slip into Drugs” day. Wear your wildest slippers or socks to school (but remember to bring shoes for P.E. and recess).

Tuesday, October 23:

  • “We may be crazy, but we don’t do drugs!”: It’s Crazy Hair Day!! Come show off your style at the Red Ribbon Rally in the Macy’s Parking Lot (near corner of Chapel Hill Blvd. & Plano Parkway) of The Shops at Willow Bend. Coffee starts pouring at 7:00 a.m. and the Rally begins at 7:15 a.m. There is also a poster contest. So get creative and win a great prize!
  • Spanish Program – 2:45 - 4:00 p.m.: Please send a note for your child’s teacher and a snack for your child.
  • Yearbook Cover Contest entries are due.

Wednesday, October 24:

  • “Be on our Drug Free team!”: Wear your favorite team jersey to celebrate Red Ribbon Week.
  • Deadline to pay for 5th grade camp.

Thursday, October 25:

  • “It’s not the clothes that count!”: Mix and match your outfit today to show it’s not how you look that matters.
  • Early Release at noon.

Friday, October 26:

  • Student Holiday for Parent/Teacher conferences.

~ Get Ready for Science Fair: The Barksdale Science Fair will be held in January of 2008. Permission slips to participate in the fair will be going home in the next two weeks. Please encourage your child to participate and send in the completed permission slip for a copy of the rules. If you have any question, you can contact Ms. Danyielle Miller. To volunteer as a judge, please email Ms. Miller. To volunteer to set up science fair, please contact Reshma Pattabi, Science & Technology Chairman.
