Barksdale PTA 2006-2007 Life Member Honorees

Congratulations to Margaret Adams, Debra Copley, Sandy Wilson (faculty) and Terri Finley on receiving Life Member Honors! This is the highest honor that can be presented to individuals for outstanding service to our school and our children.

These four new Life Members will be joined by honorees across Plano ISD in a special banquet and ceremony to be held at Plano Center on Tuesday, February 13, 2007.

A quote from a nomination said … ” would nominate this individual for her constant and tireless efforts for the PTA over the past 6 years. She is constantly involved with school activities and issues related to the benefit of the children.”

This honoree has been Secretary on the board in the past and currently holds that position. Margaret Adams has also held the position of Outreach Coordinator, as well as helped coordinate Spanish Club for several years.

This year, Margaret has been an integral part of the Allocated Funds Committee, which worked diligently to help find the best way to spend excess funds of the PTA. She excels at coming up with new ideas, is great at listening to other people, and has been a top recruiter for getting new members on the PTA board (it’s because nobody can say, “No” to Margaret)! Every one who knows Margaret, knows her positive energy and “can-do” attitude!

A quote from a nomination said… “She doesn’t pick the high profile jobs; she prefers to work behind the scenes but there is not a harder or more committed volunteer than this honoree.”

Over the course of many years, this PTA member has proved to be a truly committed volunteer. She is responsible for the creation of our Red Ribbon Walk to School Rally that has grown to be so important for our school.

She has been in charge of Field Day, Bike Safety Rodeo, our Study Buddy program and Science and Technology, which are all roles that directly impact our children. Debra Copley also developed fourth grade Math Facts program.

Debra ran the School Store for many years, as well as coordinated the selling and delivering of school supplies packets at the beginning of the year. She also led the PTA Audit Committee for many years. Her tireless efforts have certainly helped our PTA and our students!

A quote from a nomination said… “This honoree has a passion and creativity that is unmatched. She is not one to say no when asked to lend a hand and her reach extends beyond one area of focus. She does not shy away from the big jobs either.”

This new Life Member has been such an outstanding volunteer with more positions than almost possible to list: homeroom parent, kindergarten coordinator, homeroom coordinator, newcomers’ chairman, hospitality chairman, fundraising chairman, carnival chairman, fifth grade graduation chairman ‘04-‘05, Country Fair chairman, fifth grade coordinator ‘06-‘07, teacher appreciation and building and landscape chairman. …and probably MORE

Terri Finley exemplifies the true meaning of a volunteer. Terri takes great pride in our school and has always worked to make it a better place for the children and families of Barksdale. Barksdale will surely miss Terri when her daughter graduates from fifth grade!

A quote from a nomination said: “She has a warm and open personal style yet with the know-how and charisma to command the respect of her peers and students.”

It is an honor for the PTA to present this honor to a very outstanding faculty member. Good Morning, Barksdale is something the whole school can be proud of, and that is something Sandy Wilson takes on with flair and creativity.

She often spends much of her own time working on it and her other school related projects. She has new creative ideas and the knowledge to see them through. Always with a smile, Sandy is such a support to our PTA and helps us get the word out for all our events. We are lucky to have her!
